G.I. Joe is a line of action figures produced and owned by the Hasbro toy company, but the line has greatly expanded to include comics, book and record sets, movies, television, and video games. Really. who among you hasn't heard of the toy G.I. Joes that initially represented the four branches of the United States armed forces with the Action Soldier (Army), Action Sailor (Navy), Action Pilot (Air Force), Action Marine (Marine Corps), and later, the Action Nurse? But did you know this: The launch and development of Hasbro G.I. Joe action figures actually resulted in the coining and general use of the now-common term "action figure"! Plus, Joe's appeal to both children and adults has made it nothing less than an icon among toys.
